Smart WiFi Socket – Do You Need it?
I recently bought an Orvibo Smart WiFi Socket S20 from Zapals.com. It’s the first time I’ve heard of this online shop so I thought I’d give them a try. I bought the socket for about $17 Australian Dollars and considering the price, I bought three of them.
I have been wanting to get my hands on this kind of tech for a very long time now and I’ve finally found the need for it especially with the use of a portable heater. With the smart socket, all we do is just set-up a timer and the heater will turn off after the countdown making it convenient for us to sleep away into comfort during the cold nights.
What do you get out of the box?
Simple, you get a smart socket capable of connections via WiFi, an easy to read manual, and a warranty card which I doubt I will ever use. The Orvibo Smart WiFi Socket can come in your own country’s plug type, just make sure to select the right one when buying online.
How does it work?
There are a few things to consider before you actually get this product to work the way you want it to.
- Router with Internet and WiFi access
- DHCP settings in your router is enabled (Some are automatically enabled by default. Personally, I did not need to do anything with my DHCP)
- Smartphone/Tablet with an updated operating system
- Download and Install the Wiwo app from the App Store or Google Play
- Smart phone/tablet is able to connect to the router and gain access to the internet and WiFi
In general, the Smart WiFi Socket serves as a link to your device and a power plug. It makes any device smart by letting you put a timer or remotely control them to turn on/off. You can set a time when the device will be on or off OR you can make a countdown before it turns on or off.
To take things into perspective, say you have a portable heater or any heater that’s plugged into the wall. Now, you want to sleep straight at night but the heater doesn’t have a timer on it because it was invented way before your parents were born. The Smart WiFi Socket let’s you have that sleep without having to wake up just to turn off the heater once the temperature is at a comfortable degree or if you want to save some electricity or gas.
Is it worth it?
I have been using the Orvibo S20 Smart WiFi Socket for a couple of weeks now and it has not failed me. The price of the device is very affordable compared to the benefits it can give you. One of the best things I like about the Orvibo S20 is that you can charge your phone at night and giving you the peace of mind not to overcharge it by setting a time for when the charging starts and ends.
Set the Orvibo S20 Smart WiFi Socket on, plug your charger into the socket, and set a countdown timer estimating how long before the phone becomes fully charged. It is extremely useful for today’s gadgets/devices so you avoid overcharging them thus prolonging their life span and saving you a lot of money.
If you are in to making your home smart, then the Orvibo S20 Smart WiFi Socket is for you. It’s cheaper compared to other brands and it doesn’t need a HUB to become operational.
